Holiday Party Outfit #1

Hello Lovelies!

As you all know, it’s holiday season and the holiday party invites are coming in full force. Work outings, family gatherings, getting together with friends – it is now that time of year! So with that being said, I’m going to be doing a series on holiday outfits for a little inspiration. Who knows? Maybe it will inspire you to put an outfit together for your next holiday party. 🙂 Let me know what you think.

Now, let’s talk about my recent purchase. This Pandora ring! I’ve been eyeing this ring for a while now and finally decided to get it. If you notice, the stone is turquoise which serves as the birthstone for December. My birthday is actually in April but if you remember my favorite color is blue. So, it would make sense that the turquoise would be much more appealing to me than the April diamond birthstone. Duh! I’ve tried it on in the store before so I knew exactly what size to get but I was still nervous that it wouldn’t fit. However, it was a perfect fit and I’m so happy with it.

I’m sure everyone is looking forward to the weekend and I hope you all have special things planned. But a relaxing day at home works too! 😉

Happy Hump Day!

After returning to work after the long Thanksgiving weekend, I knew I would have to pull out my favorite color to get me going through the day. Not only did I need to add color but I would need to put on my corporate face and dress it up a bit as well. This top is one of my favorites, the color is a vibrant blue and I’m a huge fan of cowl necks. I wish I owned more of them! A skirt and heels were definitely in order to get me out of the home-all-week, dressed down feel.

The Upside of Things Week 5 + Thanksgiving OOTD

Happy Friday and what a wonderful Friday it is! The sun is shining and it is unseasonably warm and I’m loving every minute of it.

This week was a pretty good week.

I returned to the office on Monday after working remote for 2 weeks. I worked from home on Tuesday which is my regular work from home day. While I was home on Tuesday, we were told that we could work from home on Wednesday. How great is that?! Then I was off for Thanksgiving and working 1/2 day from home today (I work for a financial institution so we go by bank holidays). So basically, I went into the office for one day. Sweet!
My brother and sister-in-law are visiting from Maryland and they have the two most adorable kids. A 4-month old baby boy and a 2-year old girl (they’re simply the cutest!) You can imagine how distracted I am this week.
Thanksgiving was a blast. My sister cooked and we ate well. I had to stop eating a few times to make more room and by the time I was done, I couldn’t move. Everything was delicious! That night, we laughed, we danced (yes, we did our own soul train line, haha) and to top off the night, we sang a little karaoke. My brother picked up a karaoke machine while living in Japan and he brings it each time he visits. It’s so much fun!
Today, I plan on checking out all the Black Friday deals, I’m pretty excited actually. I do my shopping online because I’m not daring enough to face the stores. I’m also looking forward to Cyber Monday to snag more deals. The biggest thing that I look out for besides discounts is free shipping to stores that wouldn’t offer it in general.

Does anyone else plan on taking advantage of deals today and Monday?

Monochrome mood + thoughts on blogging

Lately, I’ve been trying to step up my blogging game because it’s something that I feel that I can benefit from in the long run. I was never the type of person to put myself out there and bring others into my life willingly but blogging has changed that for me. I’m still slowly coming out of my shell but day by day, it’s being cracked and peeled back a little.

I’ve always had a kind of wall around me. I don’t talk much and I don’t volunteer too much information about myself. Since joining the blogging community I see how freely some folks can speak about themselves and I so admire that. I hope that one day I can get to that point and I hope that this post is the start of that.

I’m also not the most photogenic person. I’ve never taken one shot and said “Boom, there it is!” But I am working on taking better photos. I’ve chosen to expose this part of myself with outfit posts and it’s forcing me to “fix my face” for the camera. If I don’t smile, I look like I’m pissed off at the world. Ha! If I smile too much, I can come off as being fake. Oy! But, I’m making progress and finding a happy medium. 🙂

I’ve been blogging for about 4 months now and I want to thank all my followers for welcoming me and for reading, or for just merely viewing my posts.

I hope that I can continue to put out good content and with time get better and better.

Now on to the outfit, all of these items except for the blanket scarf are things that I had in my closet. I love when I can find an outfit and put it together without having to go out and shop. I’ve never worn these pieces together and I must say that I love this look. These H&M ankle skinnies are one of my favorites. They fit perfectly and have a sleek look to them. I picked up this Forever 21 sweater last winter and tried them on on a whim and they worked with the jeans. I recently got the blanket scarf and it’s so soft – only downside: it sheds a lot of lint! I was constantly picking lint off my lips, haha. All day!

The booties are super old (my dad bought them for me years ago!) and I just love them. I’ll probably wear them until the heels fall off…lol. 🙂 As for the the jacket I’ve had it for quite some time and it’s still one of my favorites. I purchased it when I was pregnant with my first son and I have been wearing it ever since.
