How To Turn Your Warm Weather Dress Into Your Next NYE Outfit

Happy Boxing Day!

How was everyone’s Christmas? I hope you all had a wonderful time celebrating with family and friends and Santa was good to you. Our family had a wonderful time together and it was enough just to see the kids happy opening their gifts. They made out like bandits!

This look that you see here started out basic. I received this dress recently from Rose Wholesale which was on back order. Meaning, I ordered it in October (so it was meant for a fall look) but received it in December. I had totally forgotten about the dress until I received an email saying it was shipped out. So, I had to think about how I was going to style it for winter. The dress is so cute but extremely lightweight so I knew that I had to wear something over it to stay warm. I had recently purchased a similar blazer to this one on sale at H&M and thought it would be perfect to throw on over the dress. And you know what? It was!

Then of course, you add stockings or tights. The stockings (similar here) that I’m wearing were a gift from my sister-in-law which she brought back from Japan and they were the perfect addition to dress up the look. FYI…a friend has brought back stockings and undergarments from Japan for me before and they are THE best in terms of quality! So if you’re going to Japan or know of anyone going there, ask them to bring you back a couple pairs – trust me.

The booties are Vince Camuto which I picked up while I was in the mall at the Apple Store waiting to get my phone battery replaced. I had a lot of time to kill because I had to wait two hours for them to get it done. So, I walked into Bloomingdale’s and when I saw these booties it was love at first sight. The booties were on sale and I was so happy that I stumbled upon them. Side note, if you’re having issues with your iPhone battery running out of juice quickly, take it back to the apple store so they can replace it for free. It only applies to 6s and 6s Plus I believe, and they do look up the serial number to see if your phone is on the defective list but it’s totally worth it if you’re having issues.

I finished off my look with my trusty hat and Daniel Wellington watch, (get 15% off the danielwellington.com site using code Simplygailg), and voila I created a festive New Year’s Eve look!

Also, if you want to add a little more bling to your outfit, why not try a sparkly hairband. The one you see below is from Irresistible Me. Style Collective Brunch Fun + OOTD

Last week Saturday, my Style Collective sisters and I met up for a fun brunch. We met at Maman in Tribeca NYC which is such a beautiful cafe and highly recommended. We ate, we laughed, we shared, we had a blast! Below are some fun pics of our brunch.

The ladies in this group are so supportive and we all bounce ideas off each other. We have meetups from time to time which is so good to help us get to know each other better. T’is The Season for Red Coats | Sammy Dress

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend. This weekend was a fun one because I met up with my Style Collective sisters two days in a row. A few of us had the opportunity to attend the Stylinity x Lord & Taylor fashion event on Friday and had the pleasure of meeting Veronica Webb! Then on Saturday, we met for brunch in downtown NYC and we had a blast. A little girl time is always a fun time. I’ll have a post on that later but for now, I’d like to share a review of this coat that I received from Sammy Dress.

This is not the first time that I’ve worked with the brand and for the most part, I’ve had success with them. However, when I ordered this coat, I was expecting a coat that felt like a lightweight wool coat but this one is more like a wool/sweater blend. It’s a pretty coat and the red is a gorgeous red (perfect for the holiday season) but the quality for me was less than. When I received it, it was wrinkled so I had to iron it which helped only a little. I ordered it in a size large per the size chart and it fit perfectly! The only issue was the two buttons in the front were not in the right position for me to button the coat so I stuck with tying the belt. All in all, it is an okay coat which I would probably wear again but I will need to remove the enclosures in the front or re-position them.

The Perfect Stocking Stuffer with Case App

Black & White OOTD + Holiday Cocktail Recipe

Hey hey lovelies! How’s everyone’s Monday so far? I hope you all had a great weekend and you did something fun and exciting. This weekend was spent helping our 5th grader with his science project. He had to make a model of his own country and of course, any project that comes home is for the parents as well. That’s just how it is. I have to say though that it was fun letting all my creative juices flow. Sometimes we need that to break up the monotony so no complaints there!

I’ve wanted to share this outfit for a while now and I’m finally getting to it. This “top” that I’m wearing, and I say top in quotes because it looks like a dress on me, was sent to me from Sammy Dress. I was able to pick out a few things from the site and since I knew that Thanksgiving was coming up, I wanted to pick something where I could stuff my belly and no one would be the wiser that there was a sizable pouch forming underneath the layer. I mean, how perfect is this top though? I’ve got so much room to just let it all hang out. The top is a “one size fits all” and I knew from past experiences that it was going to be huge on me but I couldn’t help myself, I love over-sized sweaters! So far, I’ve had good experiences with the clothing from this retailer so if you’re looking for inexpensive trendy pieces, they’re a reasonable place to start. Before I move on, let me tell you about this hat. I think I probably sang “hallelujah” out loud when I found it. Now, I’ve been looking far and wide for a hat to fit my noggin, not because of the amount of hair I have but something that would suit my face. I’ve tried every type of hat under the sun from H&M, Forever 21 and Target. I even have a hat in my closet that I’ve never worn (any takers?). Then along comes this hat that I found by chance at the last minute. We were in Target shopping for clothes for the kids and while my hubby and the kids were at the checkout, I quickly ran over to the hat section and boom, the first hat I laid my hands on was the one that went home with me. Now if that isn’t fate, I don’t know what it is. It may not seem like a big deal but it really is. I’ve been searching ya’ll, for at least two years now. How sad is that? Lol. Anyway, I’m so happy with this one and my search has finally come to an end. Amen to that!

I also wanted to share an easy holiday cocktail recipe with you all so please keep reading.

Moscow Mule recipe

*Intended for audiences 21 years of age and up.

Want a perfect holiday cocktail? Try a Moscow Mule. I’ve only recently started to drink them and once I found out that ginger beer is the main ingredient, I was sold. The one thing that I like about these drinks is that you can try different variations and make it your own.

Moscow Mule Recipe

What you’ll need:

A cute copper mug (no, not really. Any mug/glass will do.)

1.5 oz. vodka (I used Pinnacle)

3 oz. ginger beer (watch for sugar content in the one you choose)

¼ oz. lime juice

1 sprig mint

1 slice lime

1/4lb fresh cherries

2 oz. Dole frozen cherries, juiced or cherry juice

In a glass or mug with ice, add vodka, cherry juice, and lime juice. Top with ginger beer and stir. Garnish with mint sprig, cherries and lime slice.

That’s it. Pretty simple, right? Enjoy!
