Welcoming Summer With A Splash of Color

I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend celebrating Father’s Day! This weekend was nothing but celebrating for us. Friday was my husband’s birthday so we took him out to dinner on Saturday, then we celebrated Father’s Day on Sunday and today is our 20th wedding anniversary so we will be celebrating again tonight! We would have liked to have taken a trip or do something truly special to celebrate this milestone but it’s just not possible at the moment, especially since I just started a new job. Hopefully, we will be able to take a mini trip later this year, if not early next year. For now, we will have ourselves a nice night out. As long as we’re together, that’s all that matters, right? 🙂

When the sun is shining and the birds are singing, I turn to happy colors and one of my new obsessions is the color yellow. Yellow to me is the true epitome of happiness and pure joy. I mean, it’s the color of the sun, and who doesn’t love sunshine?

It’s finally starting to look like summer in NY where we’ve been seeing more rain than anything else lately. I’m my happiest when it’s bright, warm and sunny and I like to dress that way.

This floral kimono from Rosegal is a great addition to my wardrobe since I’ve been trying to add more florals and colors. And how about these yellow shorts? I purchased them from H&M recently but unfortunately they’re only available in stores so I linked similar ones below.

 

I added these yellow sandals from Nordstrom to complete the look. They’re the perfect summer sandals and super comfortable for a day or night out in the city.

How To Style High-Waisted Culottes

I’ve always liked culottes and have admired people who manage to look effortlessly chic wearing them. I happened to stumble upon these culottes while doing a google search and I couldn’t stop thinking about them. And you know what you have to do when you can’t stop thinking about something, you just have to buy them! Culottes can be worn by anyone as long as you know how to style them. I personally prefer to see culottes worn with flats or sneakers especially if you have skinny legs, otherwise they look like two sticks at the bottom of very wide pants.

I purchased these culottes from Boohoousa.com (my first time buying from them) and like Asos, I received the package within 3-5 days. I purchased them in a size 4 and they fit perfectly. I was nervous about the sizing but I decided to go with my normal size and I’m so happy I did because they fit true to size and were only $30! The tricky part was figuring out how to style these bold red pants. The first thing I had to think about was what top would work best. Now, since the pants are the focal point of the outfit and they’re super wide on the bottom, your best bet is to go with a fitted top either tucked in or cropped. I had this crop top that I purchased from Forever 21 earlier in the year and it was just sitting around waiting for the right bottom and sure enough, they went perfectly with the culottes, similar style here. I don’t have the flattest stomach so the high waist of the culottes provided the right amount of coverage so that only a small part of my belly button showed. (I do also think about the fact that I’m a mom and I do need to look respectable.) 🙂

I accessorized with this gold choker necklace that I received from Trellis Lane and a gold necklace, which was a gift from my mom. My Aldo sandals were the finishing touch to this look, linked similar style below.

The Prettiest Pink Lace Pom-Pom Dress

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend. We celebrated my son’s 8th birthday on both Saturday and Sunday (his birthday was on Sunday). We had lots of fun celebrating but it was definitely tiring. Luckily, I was able to fit in a photoshoot on Sunday morning in the West Village which was really nice. The weather was gorgeous and it was so peaceful.

So, this is the one color I don’t wear a lot  – pink. Not because I don’t like pink, but I tend to gravitate towards more neutral colors. But how pretty is this lace dress? The lace is so beautiful and the pom detail on the sleeves and hemline add such a nice touch. This dress is perfect to wear to an evening dinner party or even a wedding. It’s perfect for the transitional weather since it still doesn’t feel like summer so the long sleeves provide a little extra warmth. The dress is pretty short so if you’re on the taller side, it doesn’t leave much to the imagination. I had to be very skilled when bending over so I made sure to throw on a pair of shorts underneath.

To not detract from the dress, I kept it simple by adding a neutral handbag and nude sandals. FYI…I almost went through the whole shoot without realizing that my bag was turned backwards. Don’t judge. 🙂

Floral Spring Dress + My Love/Hate Relationship With Spring

So first the good news! I started my new job on Monday…woo hoo! After 5 months of freedom, er…unemployment, I’m finally back in the corporate game. So please send me good vibes and wish me luck! The bad news, I’m starting a new job during the height of allergy season. My allergies are exceptionally bad this season for some reason (hehe that rhymed) and I’ve been taking Claritin D on a daily basis. I also take NyQuil at nights because if I don’t, not only is my sleep disrupted but so is my husband’s and that just isn’t fair, is it?

I love spring for what it is, a renewing of life where the trees come to life,  and at every turn, all you see are pretty flowers. The weather gets warmer and you can shed all the extra layers. However, the allergies sometimes ruins the beauty of it all for me. I get the itchy eyes, sneezing, sniffling and wheezing on top of it all, and I feel sleepy all the time! It really is an energy killer! So now you see why I need  some extra prayers for my new job. My mind needs to be sharp and focused at all times and that might be a little tough. It’s also the first time in 5 years where I’ve worked a full 5 days in the office. At my last job, I worked from home two days a week and it was sweet! It’s only Wednesday and I feel like I’m going to die! I’m exhausted! It’s definitely an adjustment so I’m going to have to make life adjustments in order to make this work like go to bed earlier and work out on a regular basis.
