There are times when I’m completely stuck when it comes to planning my outfits. It could be that I’m completely bored with what I see in my closet, or I totally forget what I have in my closet (it happens). Or, it could simply be that I have one piece and need inspiration on how to complete the look. That’s where instagram and Pinterest comes in.
My first stop is usually Pinterest. It is by far the easiest tool on how to style your closet. The first thing that I’ll do when I need inspo is do a general search like “winter outfit ideas” or “spring outfit ideas” and then maybe I’ll narrow it down to either casual, dressy or outfits for work. On the other hand, when I need to style a particular piece in a specific color, I’ll do a search like “red top outfit ideas” or “grey sweater dress outfit ideas” – things along those lines. Pinterest is the best resource especially when it’s 10pm and you have to wake up early to go to work the next day and you’re exhausted. You know what I’m talking about. Or a brand sends you something to style that you totally love but you have no idea what direction to take in styling it. Pinterest just does the work for you and hopefully once you find the perfect outfit idea, you can match it with items from your closet and not have to go shopping.
This outfit that you see here was totally inspired by instagram. I happened to be scrolling through one day and stumbled across @stylesbymoda IG page and I saw a really cool outfit – a grey sweater paired with a button down long sleeve shirt and leather skirt. I took a screenshot of the photo and saved it to my camera roll for future reference. A few days later, I was scrolling through the Luv.it app trying to decide what I wanted to purchase and happened upon this grey sweater. I felt like it was totally fate – someone wanted me to style this outfit. Ordering that sweater was the first step to achieving this look. Now, although I really loved the look, I did not want to go out and spend money just for the heck of spending so I combed through my closet. I remembered that I had this blue button-down shirt that I had purchased from Zara and I was pretty psyched to find it! I also threw on these ultra sheer stockings by Berkshire which were sent to me for road test sampling (perfect because it was super cold), and my favorite Vince Camuto lace-up booties. The only missing component was the skirt. I found a faux suede and leather mix skirt in Forever 21 – sold out now but here’s a really cool faux leather mini skirt from Asos which would serve just as well.
The final touch was this beautiful turquoise envelope clutch from Stoosh Images handmade in India. If you haven’t heard of them, they’re an image consulting service that helps you be the best you when choosing outfits and they help you to make the right choices.
