Why did I ever follow the “no white after Labor Day” rule? I’m from a tropical island where that rule doesn’t even exist but yet in this country, I stuck to the rule like white on rice. Well, it’s time to change things up! The older I get, the more I start looking at things from a different perspective and being more comfortable in my own skin. So I decided that I’m just going to dress the way that I feel and if I feel like wearing white in the middle of winter, well hell, that’s what I’ll do.
These photos were shot in beautiful Dumbo, Brooklyn and it’s the first time I’ve ever spent quality time there. I remember the first time that I visited Dumbo many, many years ago when I was in college and it wasn’t as built up as it is now. The scene was mostly the water, rocks and the bridge. There were a few cafes and restaurants but not like there are now.
The kids and I ate in a cafe called One Girl Cookies and it was one of the cutest and most comfortable cafes I’ve ever been in. The place is spacious and it’s such a great scene with super positive vibes. If you visit Dumbo, one thing you’ll notice are the massive amount of photographers and “models” on Washington Street. It’s a prime location because you get a great view of the Brooklyn bridge and it serves as an excellent back drop for photos. It can get tricky with the sun and its harsh lighting so you have to plan well when your goal is to take quality photos at that location. Another place to visit is Jane’s Carousel – a good friend of mine had such a dream wedding there in 2015. It’s currently closed most of the week but is open from Thursday through Sunday until the summer when it’s open six days a week. I can’t wait to take the kids on the carousel!
That’s all for now but stay tuned for future posts with photos taken in Dumbo. It really is a great location for blog photos.
