Happy Monday! I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and that you made that special man in your life feel extra special for Father’s Day.
Let me start off by saying that I appreciate all of my readers and followers and I feel so blessed to be able to interact with all of you. I feel that lately my style has been evolving and it’s due to all the all the inspiration around me. There are times when I have no idea what to wear to work and I will turn to Pinterest or instagram to get ideas. My friend recently told me about “capsule wardrobe” on Pinterest and it has been such a great tool. It teaches you how to take outfits from your closet to the next level. If you haven’t checked this out yet, I totally recommend it, especially if you feel stuck! Simply enter “capsule wardrobe” into the search field and it will bring up tons of results.
Now, let’s talk about taking an outfit from basic to chic. It can be as easy as adding jewelry, your favorite scarf, a sweater or jacket, or even your favorite pair of shoes. Today, I want to share with you how I dressed up this basic dress.
Adding a statement scarf
I ordered this dress from Romwe (my first time ordering from them) and when I first tried it on, I thought it was pretty but a little plain. I loved the style of the dress and the color is a gorgeous blue but there wasn’t much to it. So I thought, “how I could spice it up?” I rifled through my closet and found a scarf that I’ve had for ages but have never worn. Isn’t it great when you find something old and it’s as if it’s brand new? I tried wearing the scarf in a few different ways but settled on a single knot at the center of my chest and I loved the results.
So, now a simple dress is not so simple.
Add a pop of color
Since I knew that I was wearing the dress to work, I had to think about the air conditioning during my commute and in the office. So I took it a step further and grabbed a yellow sweater because I knew it would stand out perfectly against the blue of the dress and the colors of the scarf. I loved how the sweater totally transformed the look and brightened up the entire outfit.
Now a basic outfit has been transformed!
